Branding and Logo work Update for PBMS.
Here's a followup on
Philip Michael Brown Studio, Design Studies, Volume One
which contains my branding/identity work. I think this is an amazing one of a kind publication that closely relates in format and execution to Kent Larsen's "Louis I. Kahn: Unbuilt Masterworks", although much bigger, contemporary. It explores the philosophy and work of a subject matter that although pragmatic is presented in the surreal yet tangible world we work, live and dream in. Filled with captivating compositional imagery its a real gem so please check it out.

hypertecture is a compound word. hypermedia + architecture.
We believe ambition and intellectual prowess can bring forth many beautiful things. hypertecture was spawned 12 years ago from an inkling that technology and discipline could help us express building in a non-linear and virtual way connecting the two pragmatically and thereby ultimately manifesting a responsible and visually powerful result-for the dreamed or built reality. Our new identifier speaks of the simulacra we create and the creed that Design is One*.
* Lella and Massimo Vignelli: Design is One
After a 12 year running we've retired our veteran logo in search of a timeless 'calling card'. In no way a replacement but instead a transitional and powerful evolution. We're proud to announce the arrival of our updated visual namesake represented in the grid arranged pixels below.

We're still waiting on some project releases which probably won't make it to 2010 but in the meantime here's a spinet of a Corporate Identity Project I worked on for my buddy Philip Brown. I'll post something in 2011 but basically consisted of a logo, business card, letterhead, website, book cover and layout for a new publication. I'll posts links as soon as they become available as a follow-up.

TOM FORD
I worked on some quick yet interesting studies with the design architect of the eagerly awaited TOM FORD store at the new new Crystals at City Center designed by Daniel Libeskind last week. It was necessary to simulate the exterior environment as accurately as possible to understand how much the mecoshades would reveal at different densities. You'll have to visit the store to see the interior of the woman's wing.

There's some really amazing and inspiring work we've been a part of in the last month thanks to some of the most forward thinking architects and designers in New York. Every creative endeavor carries the same overtones and methodology but being a fan of our clients help. We find that renderings that break the mold are those usually produced under these conditions with the shortest time constraints.

This month we're posting recently completed retail rendering work for world renowned designer Bill Sofield. Three technically robust 3D renderings were produced along side Studio Sofield and their distinguished set of consultants including lighting designers, prop-display and visual merchandising groups from NY, London and Barcelona. Our reaction was that they were technically challenging but really express design intent well and look fabulous. Apparently our client also digs them.

the dervish
New HD CG animation for a 3 minute video projection and limited edition Blu-Ray discs titled
'The Dervish' by the Turkish artist Haluk Akakce.
Haluk Akakçe returns to London for his first exhibition in the UK since 2007. Featuring a new digital film work and six new paintings, Coming Home explores the psychological and philosophical meanings of time, and how movement and transformation through time can be aesthetically expressed. Undeniably indebted to his architectural training and influenced by practices of abstract painting and sculpture, Akakçe’s work nonetheless exists beyond the boundaries of any single artistic tradition, articulating a sense of the world that is both immediately personal and suggestive of the universal.

HQ Project, Client undisclosed, UAE
hypertecture is currently assisting one of the world's top architecture firms on a very high profile and prestigious project in UAE. We recently completed over 15 renderings in 3 weeks with close client interaction throughout the process. Most of the interiors were developed using schematic design drawings but sketches served to be the quickest way to address ongoing design developments. A total of 3-5 review sessions were possible under this tight deadline. Final deliverables were provided as 5000pixel data for A0 prints. Project renderings are still evolving but we got permission to make this post just in time for our April update. The creative exchange between our clients is a wonderful byproduct that we look forward to and we're very proud of the final product herein.

hypertecture, Top 40 artists in the World!
Selected from hundreds of entries, overseen by our peers (5 different respected firms within the industry) and created by some of the most respected names in visualization, we're honored to co-exist in this remarkable publication featuring some of today's top CG artists.
"3DATS announces the production of a unique new book designed to showcase some of the best 3D visualization talent on the planet. 'ispirato', features the incredible artwork of 43 artists from 17 different countries, selected by a panel of judges from 5 different companies within the industry. Printed on super thick 170gsm Lumi Gloss stock, bound in a black leather padded cover, embossed and printed with silver foil, no expense was spared to ensure that each image was printed to the highest possible print specifications available. We can’t help but think that anyone who sees this imagery will be a little more inspired by it. Hence, we decided to name this book, “ispirato”,which is Italian for “inspired”. We could think of no more appropriate title! " 3DATS

VFX TEST Still release for the sequel to 2009s 'Come Dance With Me' and 'Coming Home' films created for critically acclaimed contemporary artist Haluk Akakce and Galerist in Istanbul.
Following our trailers and research in 2009 we have created a labyrinth of common hypertecturesque CG gestures represented in a surreal light herein. In this new HD VFX masterpiece, for early release in 2010, hypertecture explored the use of billions of 3d polygons, Enriched Depth of Field, Motion Blur, Blooming and Optical Aberrations, Physical Camera Lenses, Sub-Surface Scattering, Caustics, Micropolygonal Displacement and Global illumination to realize reincarnation in DIGITAL nature. This will be released as a 50 disc limited Blu-ray HD collection encased in a rapid prototyped translucent skin tone casing designed and manufactured by the artist and hypertecture at the SOHO annex studio.

This month we've re-examined our work on a 'Private Residence' for Richard Meier & Partners Architects LLP we worked on in 2001. This home was not realized by the Iconic Architect but was a tough subject in computer simulation at the time due to the use of extensive glazing in the building's envelope. Technology has come a long way, what then took days now takes hours or minutes to study. This is part of an in-studio multi-series retrospective at optimizing old work flows and projects using new technologies.
